The pandemic has changed the shape of global happiness

An interesting study shows how Covid has affected happiness levels across the globe and across age groups. The interesting finding is that the world as a whole wasn’t any more or less happier during the peak of the pandemic relative to pre-Covid times. However, there are differences across geographies as well as age groups. The latter is intriguing indeed. The study notes that the old have become happier relative to the young, somewhat counter-intuitive at first given that Covid has been more lethal for the older age groups. The article reckons that the old who survived feel a sense of accomplishment for surviving the threat where as the young have been subjected to uncertainty around employment, loss of social relationships during lockdowns, etc.
